United Boxing Promotions put on a great night of fights on September 14th. CAA Centre in Brampton, Ontario was the host site for the pugilistic proceedings. The fights showcased some great up and coming local talent but there was a variety of international talent on the card from places like Jamaica, Mexico, Iran, to name a few. The card also hosted an NABA heavyweight title bout which was one of many fights on the card that electrified the audience. United Boxing Promotions
Salar Gholami vs Jose Mario Tamez kicked off the night with a first-round stoppage. Gholami pumped the jab right away while Tamez looked to turn it into a brawl. Gholami’s game would pay dividends as he ended up dropping Tamez to the canvas with some level changing hooks. Gholami cracked Tamez with one more hook once he stood up and the fight was halted when he hit the mat once again.
Antonio Napolitano vs Ricardo Planter saw the two feel each other out early. Napolitano would up the pace with working the jab and looking to integrate some combos. The second round was more of the same with Planter kind of staying outside and not committing on much while Napolitanow as able to land some decent hooks throughout. Napolitano began landing level changing punches in the third and he really ok over the ring generalship for the subsequent rounds.
Cutting corners and boxing Planter against the ropes/ in corners began to pay dividends for Napolitano as the fight progressed. Planter showed heart and really tried to go for it in the waning moments of the fight. Alas, it wasn’t enough as Napolitano won a unanimous decision where all judges gave him a clean sweep across six rounds.
Karlton Hess vs Mponda Kalunga saw Kalunga look to get his rhythm going with the jab right away. Kalunga ramps up to landing solid one-two’s and also landed a big flurry that Hess somehow survived. Kalunga began circling around and peppering Hess with shots but Hess also began to have moments of connecting as the second round kept unfurling. Another round where Hess had to weather a big storm towards the end of the round. Kalunga smelled blood in the third and was laying heavy uppercuts into the double tough Hess. Less than two minutes into the third frame, Kalunga would finally notch the knockout win.
Brock Stumpf
The Cruiserweight showcase between Brock Stumpf vs Francis Garcia wrapped up via round one knockout. Stumpf was getting a cacophonous cheer and there was a sea of grey with people wearing his shirts. Garcia was looking to be more measured and avoid certain strikes after getting an early taste of Stumpf’s power. A strong hook seemed to rock Garcia and follow up hooks would drop him o the canvas. The fight was then waved iff in Stumpf’s favor.
Stumpf said, “You can always ask for more. But at the end of the day, when you come out of a fight and you were hit once it’s like, ‘eh I could have been hit less.’ Taking one punch the whole fight pretty happy with that, yeah.” Stumpf continued, “He just wants to counter punch me so I’m like moving to my left staying away from his left. I just feel it out. In my opinion, I’m not trying to knock him out. I’m not trying to stop him. I love doing it in the first round and I think I’m going to try to keep that going. Just because it’s fun to say. A lot of my buddies are like ‘Stumpy’s two pro fights and he hasn’t seen a second-round yet’. It is fun but that’s me taking my time to be honest.”
he support of his hometown fans bolstered the energy Brock Stumpf on fight night. Stumpf stated, “I don’t know if you were looking around. It was sweet because my fans, they stuck out pretty well. Because we gave them a bunch of grey shirts. So everyone that came on the party bus from Elora was wearing this grey shirt. So at one point, it was just this sea of grey shirts. They had to be the loudest and the drunkest. It was awesome.”

The composure Stumpf showed is a by-product of intensive amateur experience and what seems like just natural confidence. Stumpf said, “That readiness….I don’t know. It’s funny how you say that. It’s just like ‘Brock, how do you come out from the gates so strong, so like this? To be honest, that’s my version of taking my time. That’s me going easy. I’m feeling him out and then I guess I just get pretty comfortable pretty quick. I could tell this guy, boom he’s nice and seated.”
He said, “Had a lot of amateur experience which was nice. I said in an interview before ‘it was almost a good thing how I tortured myself over worries and doubts’. Now I’m just sick of going through that stuff. Yes, I accept he’s going to hit me. It’s a fight. Everything can happen. But if I’m in position, which Iw as. I’m nice and seated. I’m in the best position to take a punch. The best position to give a punch.”
Stumpf was given a two-week medical suspension that has since elapsed. Stumpf will be fighting on the November card United Boxing Promotions will be putting on from the same venue. In fact, his next opponent has been announced for the November 16th show. Brock Stumpf theorizes it will be difficult to find training partners ahead of future prize fights.
Stumpf quipped, “We’re going to have to pay guys for sparring that’s for sure. We’re thinking we’re not there yet. Last camp we couldn’t really find too many people. We’re hoping it’s just the season and that nobody’s in shape, fighting. So they don’t want to jump in with me out of shape. We’ll see. There will always be sparring I’m sure. I know why they wouldn’t but yeah.” Stumpf stated, “I was pretty reckless as an amateur and just more of a brawler, whatever. If you’re good and you’re trying to do something, you should be going after the best guys around in my opinion.”

With 2019 closing out soon, I asked Stumpf about what his competitive timeline looks like for the new year. He stated, “Goal for 2020. So I’m hoping to be 6-0, six KO’s. Maybe six first-round knockouts, knock on wood. But we’ll see. And I’m hoping the sixth fight; we’re shooting for a Canadian title right away. I signed a contract with United and they’re giving me a minimum four fights a year for the first two years. Three the third. Honestly, I wish I could fight more. I love it. I’m having a lot of fun.”
Brock Stumpf is super appreciative of his support system and has been able to notice measurable personal growth between fights. Stumpf said, “Elora, it’s crazy. This town; the first fight it’s like I’m almost crying my eyes out. I want to make my promoter happy, you’ve got to sell these tickets. You’re really just reinvesting in yourself. But the second fight already it’s just like huge crowd turned out. We had one bus full, a bunch of either people, ad now everybody wants shirts. So it’s crazy to see how fast it’s growing in that way.”
Stumpf quipped, “Everything’s so positive. All the people around me. All the support. It all helps. The type of guy I am, nothing no matter what will go to my head. It’s just more motivation.”
Heavyweight Gold Changes Hands
Oleksandr Teslenko vs Shawndell Terell Winters went down with NABA Heavyweight Title hanging in the balance. Winters was looking to work the body early as the reigning champion really looked to feel out things in the fight. Teslenko got a bit more active in the second round but Winters was able to land some big right hands on him as a result. The champion begins alternating jabs to the body ad head through the third round. Teslenko also connected on a big right over the top that knocked sweat through the air. A stiff left hook afterward seems to rock Winters. Teslenkp was really putting it on Winters right up until the round ending.
Teslenko started teeing off more in the fourth but Winters rallied back to stave off the champ’s advances. Winters was putting together some good hooks. Winters kept cracking Teslenko and the champ’ pace was obviously fading. Teslenko began wearing the fight on his face more through the fifth frame. Also during this roundWinters was landing some thudding body shots to further fatigue the already tired Teslenko. Winters landed a gunshot overhand right that clearly wobbled the champ. Winters began connecting at will until the ref intervened. Teslenko’s corner was also looking to intervene but the ref stopped things a moment or two before they could throw in the towel. at 2:41 of round 5, Winters captured the NABA heavyweight title and became the new champion via TKO.
Main Event
Sukhdeep Singh vs David Romero ended off a great night of fights with style points. Singh got an enormous ovation from the crowd during the introductions and his performance proved worthy of the applause that pre-emptively came. Singh began landing multiple punch combos to the body right away. The composure he had from the opening bell was impressive. Singh landed a big left hook over the top after Romero wen for a takedown. Singh begins landing big uppercuts and is clearly right in the pocket. The second round begins and Singh continues to put on a sweet science clinic.
Romero is not doing anything to back Singh off or get respect from him. Singh would continue to dictate the pace and maneuver at his leisure for the next couple of rounds. The defensive savvy and sot variety are evident as the fight gets into the fourth frame. Singh is switching stances and is dancing around in the sixth. He’s feeling himself and is acutely aware he’s running away with this fight. Singh’s multi-faceted, damaging approach seemed to hurt Romero during the sixth and seventh rounds. Singh continued to control the course of the fight but engaged in a back and forth flurry with Romero to fire up the crowd and end off the night with some additional electricity.
All judges scored it a clean sweep of 80-72 in the favor of Singh. Sukhdeep Singh is victorious after eight rounds and put his stamp on things by winning the United Boxing Promotions main event.
Other Results
Cody Kelly vs Paul Ispas were both feeling each other out and trying to gauge the distance early on. Ispas landed a solid overhand and some good boy work in the second while Kelly connected with some solid head strikes. Kelly pushed forward and worked the body shots in the third round. Both ended the round by engaging in a flurry with one another.
Ispas looking to close distance and get in tight but Kelly has proved evasive. Staying outside of the strikes while connecting his own on Ispas. Kelly landed a nice combo in the fourth round where he changed levels through the three strikes in the sequence. Kelly seems to be running away with this fight as he seems measurably more confident as the fight goes on. Ispas had some moment throughout and even landed a good left hook in the fina round. The fight ended up being scored a majority draw with one judge favoring Kelly 58-56 after six rounds.
Jason Alexander vs Aaron Crawley saw Alexander encroach forward with crawling looking to keep him at bay with a persistent jab. Alexander is throwing and landing more throughout the first frame. Both men able to land good combos on one another as they get more comfortable to trade in the second. Alexander dug a hook ot the body in the third round. Crawley using his reach advnatage to stay at a comfortable distance while mxiing in one-two’s after the steady jabbing. A hard-hitting dog fight where both had notable moments in these exchanges. his lead to all judges giving a 58-56 unanimous decision across the board for Alexander.
Mark Smither vs Angel Gabriel Molina saw both look to assume control of the fight. Smither landed a big left hook to sway things a bit in his favor. Molina lans a goody hook to the body in kind. There was a big chant for Smither as the round cae t a close. Smither working jabs and feints in the second while Molina is looking clinch up and close distance. Smither utilizing different angles with his jab to keep his opponent at bay. Big Smither chants reverberated throughout the arena during this fight en route to Smither picking up the eventual decision win after four rounds.
Bowks Talking Bouts
United Boxing Promotions returns to the fold with a great November card. The November 16th event features O’Reilly vs Abedeen and Brandon “Bad Boy” Cook is also set to compete. ‘Unfinished Business’ will also go at CAA Centre in Brampton, Ontario.
