Hart’s primary means of making money seems to be from going on regular tours. He has some interesting ideas for how funds should be divvied up among performers on a bill. Hart said, “I don’t like the way the shows are set up. That at the door thing. The door things work out….Then the main act has to pay the other acts. And I feel the money should all go directly to the main performer. I don’t feel that we should have to dish money out of our own pockets. The restaurants should have buyouts so people can get meals. I love my fans.”

Clown stabbings and tar pits

Though Hart seemed unenthused about spending two grand to rent a car and other associated expenses, there have been other unpleasantries on this tour cycle. For Hart, some of these stressful happenings have occurred in the realm of sleep. He said, “I’ve had some weird dreams on this tour that have been outstanding. Out of body experience that really freaked me out when I was in Rhode Island and then I got clown addiction after a nightmare of Bozo stabbing me in the stomach. Then reality dawned on me. My favorite clown was excommunicated from WGM. I found out there was a conspiracy to have him blackballed off the show.”

The omission of his favorite clown from entertainment history was an oft-repeated theme throughout our conversation. All due to Chicago politics. It’s something that clearly bothers him still. Hart has had to deal with politics of his own at La Brea tar pits. David Liebe Hart is no longer allowed at La Brea tarpits and he sees it as an infringement on his freedom of speech. It was an area where he spent 40 years meeting fans. Hart also felt a sense of losing touch with his community when his public access show ended.

Television efforts

Hart had an eclectic public access show called The Junior Christian Teaching Bible Lesson Program. It featured people of various genders, religions, and races. The show eventually folded when public access television was canceled in the state. The production ran from 1998-2008 in Los Angeles.

David Liebe Hart’s most known television successes have come from his time on Adult Swim with various collaborations with Tim and Eric. This still continues to this day. Hart said, “I’m a strong believer in the UFO phenomenon. I was abducted as a kid. You can see the episode on the new spinoff that Tim and Eric gave me called I Love David. It’s on Channel 5 News and you can learn all about me.”

Hart’s music endeavors are quite varied and intriguing in their own right. Har has played country/ western, punk, rap, indie/ alternative, and gospel. Hart had an interesting collaboration with avant-garde indie legend Jad Fair where he really got to explore his love for Donald Duck.

He also worked with hip hop icon Kool Keith and hopes to do so again in the future. Hart said, “Well Jonah [Hart’s manager/ frequent collaborator] is very talented and Jonah is a fan of Kool Keith. I met a drummer who went to high school with Kool Keith and I didn’t know how famous he is. Kool Keith was cool. I got to meet him face to face at the comic con this year in March. I want to do more collaborations with Kool Keith.” Some curious things can end up happening at pop culture conventions.

The teachings of Elder Pastor Letan

Hart certainly is unabashed in articulating his unique viewpoints. For instance, his theory on where penguins and polar bears truly came from. Hart said, “There’s a race called the Palladians. They ended up going to the North Pole. They could take the cold air and adapted. Elder Pastor Letan told me all about it. He wrote me a letter about it. I talk about it on the I Love David show.”

His story about a dragon scaring his young father and his own experiences with the supernatural is worth a listen. Vivid storytelling is something that David Liebe Hart has on lock.
