Canada’s longest running MMA promotion is back with Rumble in the Cage 61. The Pro/ Ammy card has compelling, high consequence bouts on both the Amateur and Professional side of things.
Gold Medal matches will determine which elite Amateurs get to represent their country on an international scale. The nation’s best Amateurs gathered, fought in a tournament over a three day period , and it all culminates on the third/ final day.

Rumble in the Cage 61
Rylie Marchand vs Meghan Boyczuk
Round #1: Marchand and Boyczuk both feeling things out. Boyczuk secures a body lock and presses the action to the cage wall. Marchand gets a takedown but Boyczuk works for a choke immediately.
Round #2: Boyczuk working leg kicks and also kicks to the body. Marchand using her Muay Thai with her hands and knees connecting. Rylie got things to the canvas and ended up pouring on the Ground and Pound until the official had seen enough. Marchand is victorious at Rumble in the Cage 61.

Thomas Mallett vs Izzudeen Atmeh
Round #1: Mallet favouring the boxing and Atmeh tossing out some feeler kicks. Mallett gets things to the canvas and works to the mount. Atmeth bucks and ends up sweeping Mallet into Thomas’ guard.
Both men scramble and are back to a standing position. Atmeh throwing a variety of wheel, body, and leg kicks but Mallet responds with a multi punch Boxing combo.
Round #2: Mallet lands a stiff punch but Atmeh is totally unfazed it seems. Mallet closes the distance an works a folkstyle exchange.
Atmeh trying to get a takedown going on but Mallet stuffs the advance. Mallett getting in some good dirty boxing exchanges and showing solid Greco Roman wrestling ability.
Round #3: Mallet closes distance and again presses Atmeh onto the cage. Mallett transitions from folkstyle to fresstyle and lands a brief double leg TD. Atmeh gets up from the takeown soon after.
Atmeh lands some good knees and seems to be trying to disincentivize Mallet from shooting for his legs. Mallet is bloodied up from Ameh’s striking. Mallett maintaining his vigor though and keeps working for the takedown.

Indroop Virk vs Peter Janssen
Round #1: Both engage in a Folkstyle scramble for a bit until Virk did a level change and got the fight to the mat. Virk gets the back and stars working for subs. Indroop secures the rear naked choke and stops the proceedings in the opening frame. Virk continues his lengthy winning streak at Rumble in the Cage 61.
Winner via RNC in R1……Indroop Virk is the CCA
Amateur Featherweight Gold Medalist for 2019
Andrew Mavridis vs Aaron Anctil
Round #1: Mavridis gets a takedown after the frenetically paced striking sequence that preceded it. Mavridis landing slid, steady ground and pound. Antcil trying to shrimp and get some space but Mavridis has smothering top control.
Round #2: Antcil slips after an attempted kick and Mavridis follows down to secure early top control. Mavridis resumes his first round efforts with steady top control with ever-advancing ground and pound.
Mavridis steadily working the body and head of Antcil with several punches landing to the grounded opponent’s body. Antcil has spent the bulk of this contest on his back but shoots up a triangle. Mavridis escapes the triangle choke attempt and it’s back to Antcil’s guard.
Round #3: Antcil has had his best moments of the fight. This round has seen Antcil work for several submissions and put Maviridis in compromised spots. In he waning seconds of the frame though, Mavridis resumes the suffocating top control and punches.

Amateur Lightweight Gold Medalist for 2019
Jett Grande vs Ramil Kamilov
Round #1: Jett shoots in for a takedown after both are measuring the other man out. Jett working some underhooks as Kamilov is pressed on the cage.
Grande working in some knees from the clinch position. Jett looking to change levels but Kamilov adjusting his stance accordingly.
Jett maintaining the folkstyle edge in spite of Kamilov stuffing the freestyle efforts. Grande landing some solid punches t the body from close quarters.
Round #2: The second looking more lie a repeat of the first with Jett pressuring Kamilov onto the cage wall and landing strikes. Kamilov attempting to work for a choke in the waning seconds of the round but to no avail.
Round #3: Kamilov throwing punches and looking to bait Jett into a wild striking exchange. Grande keeps his composure and closes distance though. Jett finally gets the fight to he ground and drops some solid punches onto Kamilov. Jett ends off the fight with top control which must be satisfying after all of the prior efforts for TD’s that Kamilov stymied.

Amateur Welterweight Gold Medalist for 2019
Mark Mosure vs Dylan Schellenberg
Round #1: Mosure gets an early takedown but Schellenberg is looking for guillotine. Schellenburg working for omoplatas. Dylan also working for gogoplatas.
Round #2: Mosure again takes the fight t the cnvas. Mosure’s tp cotrol is much more stable this round. Mosure is advang psition and ends up in side contrl the perpetual scramble machine Schellenberg.
Mosure laid the ground and pound heavy. Ramping up the volume until the referee calls a halt to the bout. Double M gets the W at Rumble in the Cage 61.

William Greive vs Eric “Big E” Stevens
Round #1: Grieve level changes and grabs a single which then segues to a Greco Roman exchange. Stevens now has Grieve pressed onto the cage.
Grieve responds with a brief takedown, Stevens gets up, and then gets his own brief body lock takedown on Grieve. Grieve lands a head kick but Stevens keep pushing forward.
Round #2: Stevens kneeing the legs of Grieve as Big E has William pressed onto the fence. Stevens with dominant wrist control in this Folkstyle position. Really controlling the posturing of Grieve.
Round #3: Stevens and Grieve in a kickboxing back and forth. Big E landing the better strikes and closes the distance to resume to Greco Roman position on the fence.
Stevens tosses Grieve to the ground then gets to the back. Stevens working for a rear naked choke. Grieve doesn’t seem to really be fighting the hands. Stevens working in punches as he still tries for Stevensthat RNC.

Jenna Briltz vs Ali Dewsberry
Round #1: Dewsberry comes out with big punches but Briltz gets a big takedown. Briltz advancing position into Desberry’s half guard. Dewsberry shrimping, gettig back to guard, and getting back to her feet. Dewsberry landing some punches on Briltz.
Dewsberry with a superman punch and Briltz looks for another takedown after. Dewsberry looking for a guillotine but Briltz moves to half guard.
Round #2: Briltz looking for a takedown and Dewsberry landing some big strikes Punches from Dewsberry seem to be getting he attetion of Briltz as she presses Dewberry onto the fence.
The fight gets to the canvas and Dewsberry s working for an armbar. Dewsberry finally got the tap after diligently working for the arm.

Amanda Rogers vs Melissa Croden
Round #1: Croden’s varied kicks were the big difference maker. Croden’s kicks were able to keep Rogers at bay and off rhythm. Rogers nose was getting bloodied up in R1.
Round#2: Croden landing some knees to Rogers from a body lock position. Croden’s kicking game was again setting the tone for the round. Croden is putting up pace but Rogers isn’t giving up.
Round #3: N/A as the signal was down for the entirety of the round

Steven Jones vs Dale Moore
Round #1: Both Heavyweights get right to it. Jones pressing Moore into the cage. Jones punching the body of Moore a lot. Trying to fatigue the bigger fighter. Jones has a cut over his eye presumably from one of the sriking exchanges at the onset of the round.
Round #2: Jones closes the gap and clinches up with Moore once more. Both have over/ under hooks and are going back and forth between who has the dominant position. R2 looking much like R1 did.
Round #3: Jones closes that distanc and clinches right up with Moore. More broke free, Jones came forward with punches, and used his Greco rman skill to press Moore onto the fence.
This folkstyle posturing has been Jones’ bread and butter for the entirety of the contest. Jones continues to slip in punches an work the soft body of Moore. Moore tried to take the back of Jones but to no avail. Jones gets the fight to the mat, takes the back, then lands some ground and pound on Moore as the fight ends.

Colton Cronkite vs Taylor Bull
Round #1: The first Pro fight of the night kicks off with these Middleweights measuring each other out. Cronkite gets a big takedown to the delight of the Lethbridge crowd. Cronkite has good top control, postures up, and lands punches to the downed Bull.
Cronkite locks in an armbar and appears to have injured he arm of Bull.

Colton Boxell vs Josh Quinlan
Round #1: Quinlan mixing up the punches and kicks to great success. Huge punch knocks out Boxell. Quinlan in his dazed state tried to roll for a leg lock but unbeknownst to him it was over. Impressive win at Rumble in the Cage 61 for Josh Quinlan.

Joel Odorski vs Gage Saunders
Round #1: Odorski shoots for a single leg. Odorski gets a body lock and Saunders lands several elbows to the back of the head.
Odorski seems out of sorts and is bleeding a noticeable amount from the back of his head. Inauspicious ending to one f the more promising bouts on Rumble in the Cage 61.
Winner by Disqualification…..Joel Odorski (Illegal elbows to the back of the head)

Jesse Bongfeldt vs Micah Brakefield
Round #1: Bongfeldt gets the fight to the mat relatively quickly. Brakefield going into rubber guard briefly. Bongfeldt is now in side control. Bongfeldt delivered a knee to the body and has been dictating the pace of he fight so far. The fight gets back to the standing posiin.
Brakefield landing a knee to the body. Brakefield attempts a flying triangle but Bongfeldt ends up in side control with that scramble. . Big left hand seals the fate of Brakefield and Water Bongfeldt smoked his opponent.
