The Chiang Mai Zoo in Thailand is a neat little attraction, great for a family day-venture.This video takes you through a quick tour, where we feed hungry hungry hippos, an elephant, watch penguins at the Chiang Mai Zoo Snow Dome and many other animals.
We’ve seen a lot of negative reviews on whether the Chiang Mai Zoo is ethical, which I suppose can be said about any zoo. What we can say is that we enjoyed ourselves, it was clean and beautifully maintained, although there’s no doubt it looked like some of the animals could’ve used some more company.
Chiang Mai Zoo Panda Feeding Time
The Chiang Mai Zoo Snow Dome is another interesting extension to the zoo, which takes quite a bit of walking uphill to get to. For that reason, a lot of people choose to rent a Chiang Mai Zoo Golf Carts for an additional $8 USD, which makes it easier seeing the entire attraction. Nevertheless we decided to walk the entire place and managed to see pretty much everything in a morning. Here’s a look at the Chiang Mai Zoo Map and a snap shot of the penguin exhibit at the snow dome:
The Chiang Mai Zoo price is about $17 USD, which covered two adults and a one-year-old. It’s pretty tough to beat that anywhere else. If you’re wondering what to do in Chiang Mai, or are travelling from Bangcock to Chiang Mai for a short stay and looking for things to do, we’d highly recommend the Chiang Mai Zoo.
Chiang Mai Zoo Aquarium
On a separate day we decided to check out the Chiang Mai Zoo Aquarium, which we’d also highly recommend.
Tickets for the Chiang Mai Zoo Aquarium again only cost us $550 baht ($17 USD) for two adults and our one-year old, and there weren’t that many people there. That was a nice change from the packed zoos/aquariums we’ve visited in Calgary and Toronto.
These videos and this post are a part of our Chiang Mai travel series, where we’ve skipped a good chunk of Alberta’s crazy cold winter and instead decided to kick it in Thailand while sharing our experiences along the way! Here is another video we filmed at the Yee Peng Lantern Festival in November 2018, which was the highlight of our trip so far.
