Ahead of the Dene Tha Annual Assembly in Meander River, Alberta in June 2017, a group of 21 people took part in a traditional cultural canoe trip, which dates back hundreds of years. For the first time, we had the amazing honour of capturing this experience and being a part of the trip, which was hands-down one of my favourite adventures of the year. The Dene have an uncanny instinct for survival in the bush and it was a real privilege watching and learning.
Arriving in Meander River after three days to an entire community cheering us on was beyond surreal. Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen.
We have since upgraded our audio equipment and are in the process of putting together a final version, which will be told in the Dene language (Slavey) and improve the overall sound. Nevertheless we wanted to release this sneak peak to the community and hear what you think!
